What We Do
In one sentence, our vision is to co-labor with parents to provide home-schooled students with a godly, Classical Education. We are a one-day-a-week program designed to optimize learning at home.
To accomplish our vision, we build on these five foundational pillars:
• The Body of Christ
• Biblical Character
• Good Stewardship
• Academic Excellence
• Classical Education
The Body of Christ
The Body of Christ is our model. We are a community of homeschooling families desiring the best for our children’s education, spiritual training, and character development. We depend on strong family support and involvement.
Biblical Character
Our purpose is to uphold the inspired Word of God in the classroom, our discussions, and our interactions with each other. Students are accountable for their behavior, with standards regarding how they address their peers, siblings, parents, teachers, and staff.
Good Stewardship
We are a nonprofit that charges services and materials fees. We ask families to be involved on campus as much as possible and serve in the area of their giftedness. There are opportunities to serve off-campus for parents who cannot be on campus on class days. We are committed to operating without incurring debt.
Academic Excellence
Our goal is to create a lifelong love of learning through a rich academic experience using a classical approach. We prepare students to think critically, be college-ready, and be lifelong learners.
Classical Education
We utilize the classical education model known as the Trivium. By integrating classical curriculum with biblical teaching, we provide an education that presents history through the lens of God’s sovereignty. Classical education with a biblical worldview enables students to research and use factual knowledge to think critically and convey those arguments clearly and persuasively.
The History of CCHSA
Originally started in 2001 by a small group of homeschooling families, Classical Christian Institute (CCI, currently CCHSA). CCI blessed the Austin homeschool community for 15 years. In 2016, CCI’s website and curriculum ownership was transferred to Classical Christian Home School of Austin, Inc.(CCHSA), a nonprofit corporation formed in October 2015. Classical Christian Home School of Austin, Inc. has continued in the excellent tradition started by CCI. CCHSA is excited to be continuing to build on the 15+ years of excellence CCI built the foundations for and provides an ongoing nonprofit entity to support many families for years and years to come.
Academic Program
CCHSA provides a one-day/week co-op where we offer an academically rich, classical education in an environment that encourages the highest Christian conduct and principles, teaching excellent content and providing tools for success at each level. Quality instruction is offered for students in grades K-12. Great emphasis is placed on the written word and writing skills, reasoning, argumentation, and critical analysis. CCHSA assigns homework to be completed during the week, which is turned in and graded, with reports given quarterly. CCHSA is not accredited. Admission is open to students whose parents desire to co-labor with the teaching staff to provide a classical, Christian education in preparation for further studies. Families are required to submit application forms and letters of recommendation and be interviewed before admission is granted.
History, humanities, and literature studies form the backbone of the program, following a four-year rotation from prehistoric times to the present, to give students a critical understanding of the scope of history and ideas. In general terms, core courses are set in the ancient, medieval, renaissance, and modern time periods. High School offers a variety of electives depending on the needs of the community.
Lesson plans and homework are assigned through www.renweb.com. Teachers grade the homework, which is turned in weekly, and are available for consultation/clarification via email.
Within our one-day schedule, it is not possible to provide the wide range of math and science courses at the high school level that will fit in a single school day, so we offer science with labs from grades K-8 to prepare students for their high school lab intensive science courses.
All students are encouraged to complete the Texas Distinguished Achievement Diploma requirements. Information on these requirements can be found at www.tea.texas.gov
